In these days of enforced austerity, it is not always an alternative to go out and buy a ‘new one’, whatever it is. It is the time when most people are attempting to work out ways of making their capital go further. This could be anything from getting spare parts for your old cooker instead or replacing it to painting the kitchen cabinets instead of purchasing new ones.

In fact, painting the kitchen cabinets is also an outstanding way of giving your kitchen a quick makeover. Kitchen cabinets, particularly the doors, take quite a beating in their daily lives. Often the veneer or the finish on the doors can wear thin or even wear through making your whole kitchen look a bit shabby.

As outlined above, in former years, we might have just gone out and bought new ones, but these days, it is different. You could just renew the doors, if you want, or you could simply repaint the whole cabinets or just the doors. It is a quicker alternative too.

If you want to get the work done super quickly, you could get the whole family concerned in the project and have a bit of fun together because painting the kitchen cabinets is not difficult and is not demanding. The most strenuous part of any decorating job is preparation. Without suitable preparation, you will never get a decent finish.

So, the first thing to do is empty the cabinets and put everything well out of the way. Then cover anything that you do not want to get dusty with sheets especially food and crockery. You may want to take out drawers and take down your wall cabinets, but if access is easy enough, there is no need.

Most kitchen cabinets have a plastic-coated surface which is not an ideal surface to paint, so rub them down lightly with fine sandpaper or emery paper. If you have to use medium grade sandpaper (rougher) to get rid of old materials, give it a light rub down with fine sandpaper afterwards. Then rinse the surfaces with sugar soap. When they are dry, you can begin painting the kitchen cabinets.

You have a couple of decisions to make when deciding on the paint. First the colour. If the original surface is dark, you will need to undercoat it in a light colour before applying the gloss, satin or matt top coat. This technique provides the best finish by far. It is stronger, better-looking and more hard-wearing.

However, if you simply want to get the job done, you can get an all-in-one paint that does not need an undercoat, but then you will be restricted with colours. A light all-in-one will not usually cover a dark surface well and you may have to give it two coats anyway.

One note of warning here is that it is easier to make a kitchen look bright and airy and even bigger, if it is painted with bright colours. Therefore, if your kitchen was looking a little dismal and dark, do not repaint the kitchen cabinets a dark colour again solely to save having to put an undercoat. When painting the kitchen cabinets it is frequently the undercoat that makes the finish look good.

Kitchen Cabinets: 8 Tips You Must Read

According

national cuisine and Bath Association (NKBA), nearly 8 million homeowners will be remodeling or completely renovating their kitchen this year. Kitchen cabinets are no longer simply a box that you throw pots and pans inches with the variety of options and accessories that are available today, each cabinet can have a special function. Add to that the wide range of wood types, styles and finishes. . . . just to confuse even the owners informed. Here are 8 tips that I have put in place during the years of renovation and home improvement.

- Familiarize yourself with the terms of industry and />
The four most common terms you hear when it comes to cabinets are RTA (ready-to-assemble), stock, semi-custom and cabinets. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, it really comes down to your budget and what you are looking for. Ready-to-assemble cabinets and storage are the most economical, have shorter deadlines, and beginning to add more accessories to their lines. Custom Cabinets will be more expensive and have the longest time, but there is no limit to the size or custom details they can create.

- Create storage solutions tailored to meet your needs
Whatever type of cabinets you choose to go with, you can always create customized solutions storage using kits of parts and accessories. Options such as shelves full deployment extension, spice racks, and organizers pantry to help you maximize your storage space while giving you easy access to everyday objects. Large drawers in base cabinets can hold pots, pans, and dry goods, they are as popular as the pull-out recycling bins. Built-in open systems storage such as wine bottles and China displays look great even when empty.

- Choose the style and finish of your kitchen
light wood, oak and maple make your kitchen seem brighter and more which is ideal for small spaces or kitchens with very little light. darker woods like cherry and mahogany to create a more dramatic effect furniturelike. Even with cabinets or RTA cabinets stock, you can always get the custom look with features such as cuts to the leg which mimic the look of furniture. Door trim kits for appliances can help build a kitchen as well as visually, always consult the manufacturer to ensure they will not interfere with the functioning of the units.

- Do not be fooled by the />
Owners tend to get so caught up with the appearance of the cabinets, they forget to ask about the box. The box is what holds everything together, if you want it to be as strong as possible. Look for firms that have at least 1 / 2 "inch thick walls and rails structure that can be fixed with screws to the wall studs. There is a wide range of materials that are used to make furniture including fiberboard, medium density fibreboard (MDF) and oriented strand board (OSB). Although these materials can contain up to normal use, my personal choice will always be firms that use plywood. It is less likely to be affected by humidity, SAG, or break. Top-quality cabinets have dovetail drawer boxes in, and you'll also be able to match the interior finish than the outside.

- Be prepared for the inevitable
Even with the cabinets of the highest quality, it is inevitable that something is finally going to break, either on the road or before installation. When it comes to ordering your cabinets, always ensure that you give yourself extra time between the delivery and installation in case something is damaged or must be replaced (how long it all depends if they are pregnant actions that could easily be replaced or cabinets to be rebuilt). Remember to unpack all your cabinets before installing to ensure you have received units of the correct size. Strange things happen when the cabinets are delivered, if at least you’ll know quickly if there is a problem. Verify that the manufacturer or supplier may provide additional or replacement parts in the spot where something needs to be set small.

- Use the right screws
drywall screws can break under the weight of the upper cabinets. Instead, attach the cabinets to studs with screws terrace 2 1 / 2 “inch cabinet equipped with washers. Right usually live by the support beams horizontally across the top and bottom cabinets in the wall studs. Join cabinets into a single unit seams and ensures a perfect face frames.

- Do not try to install without any />
If you ask 20 experts if you need to install the cabinets first base or wall cabinets, 50% will say one thing and 50% do not agree. Whichever way you decide, before lifting up the wall cabinets, screw a 1x3 cleat just below the line layout to help support their weight. It is a work of two people at least, but if you decide to go alone, you should consider building a T-frame or with a firm decision from the Cabinet in place for that you attach to the wall (if you need instructions on building a T-Frame, see the resources section on my site)

- Think />
Just because you replace your cabinets, does not mean they are useless, especially if they are in good condition. Consider reuse in a garage or extra storage space in a laundry room or basement. Even if you can not use them, there are organizations and charities that collect them and take them away. So, before taking a hammer to your kitchen, try removing your cabinets and give them a new life somewhere else in your home or home of someone else.

Great Upgrades For The Modern Kitchen

If you want to remodel your home and want to know where to start to make the biggest impact, you need look no further than your kitchen. As a central room in the house that is constantly used by everyone, upgrading your kitchen will make an immediate difference in how your home looks.

There are numerous features that can be added or redone to improve a kitchen’s appearance and functionality, and the costs involved can run the gamut from easily affordable to very expensive. For example, it is very expensive to install an island in your kitchen; however, it would have a huge impact on the appearance of the room. New houses under construction today will often include kitchen islands that have granite countertops.

Granite is currently the most popular material to use for countertops throughout the kitchen. Granite is the material of choice for countertops in the majority of new housing construction, and you can find some great ideas by visiting your local home improvement store or leafing through periodicals. There are outlet stores for materials like stone and granite that offer a large selection of colors and designs to meet any requirement.

If you are upgrading to granite in your kitchen for the first time, make sure you choose the type of granite pattern carefully. You need to be sure that it will look right in a kitchen that has never had any granite and that it does not overpower the rest of the kitchen design wise.

A cheaper way to update your kitchen is to add a television as many modern kitchens now have TV’s in them. If you are thinking of putting a television in your kitchen, you have several choices: you can put it under one of the cabinets or you can mount it on a wall.

There are many attractive designs for under-cabinet TVs, but they aren’t often available with big the screen features. These TVs are specially designed for kitchens; however, their screens tend to be quite small. If you prefer the larger picture, a flat screen television that can be mounted on a kitchen wall may be your best choice. Wall-mounted, flat screen TVs are usually more difficult to install, but the wider picture may be worth the trouble.

Are you hoping to find some great kitchen TV’s ideas? If so, please visit my site Kitchen Design Ideas.

Thank you and hope that someone has already done this for their kitchen.

I had a custom cabinet maker design my cupboards and they are only a few inches from my gas burner. Accidentely I had a pot to touch the face of the cabinet and he burned the cherry cabinets. When I told someone, they said its illegal to build cabinets in 12 “of your range in Minnesota. Is this true???

What is the best paint for white cabinets?

I build wooden kitchen cabinets and I want them to be white. but when I painted a specimen of wood it does not look good at all. I used white semi-gloss. as you can see the texture of wood through the paint. so I have another layer, most of which got rid of this problem, but firms have not really clean air. the paint didn’t just sit even. should I use a stain? or another type of paint?
